This is a short post for me that took a long time to get right. I take my research seriously! Especially when it comes to two countries I greatly admire: Peru and Germany. That’s what today is about. 20 hotels, ten in each country. Ones that really speak to me. I want to do a spotlight on Oman and New South Wales and Tasmania and Belgium and Poland and Algeria, but I don’t want to bore you – let me know what whets your appetite.
Sunday’s edition will be more varied, but today I wanted to test a new format that was just hotels – the meat/cheese/bun, buttered pasta of Happy Hoteling. It seems some of you are here for the names and strictly trip-planning purposes, and others for my words and perspective on the wider world – I’m trying to find a balance of both because I appreciate everyone equally.
I’m also happily over-delivering while I’m in California for my visa appointment at the Italian Consulate. Then, it’s back to Italy in just a few weeks for ten hotel stays in just over a month’s time. I can’t wait to experience them and then document it all for you, Hotel Person. And I’m already antsy to be back in Florence, I miss it and it’s only been 20 days.
Lastly, thank you so much for the love on the three Morocco posts. It was a joy to live and equally a treat to write about. I am so fortunate. Really, truly. I’m so proud to have you all as my readers and I’m also unashamedly proud of my writing. It’s thrilling to be living my dream, and thus I will never cease with the thank you notes.
Happy Hoteling!
Spotlight On Peru
My grandma making pisco sours, my great-grandma making papas a la huancaina. Llama slippers brought home to me, and long tales of immigrating to and from Peru. I’m a mutt, but this is part of me and my history. I feel incredibly proud of that.
There’s so much natural beauty to see, so much history and living tradition to appreciate, so many wonderful people to admire and meet. Luckily, there are equally Special hotels in this country of such significance and they make it easy to actually experience the country, instead of just transporting yourself within Peru’s borders. Fantastic fodder for Happy Hoteling. I’m happy to share the full hotel list, which includes Lima (missing from the ten today), let me know in the comments if that’s of interest to you.
Vamos, mi gente.
KiChic – As the name suggests, this is the most chic hotel in the chic beach town of Máncora. Built with the Earth in mind and a slow lifestyle in spirit, each room is individual and has its own character. They have a cinema on the beach and room for yoga and a perfect seafront location. Some suites have private pools, but the communal one is perfectly located, too. Also to consider in Máncora, Villa del Sol and Coco Ne.
Palacio Guaqui – Home of the Count of Guaqui in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the city of Arequipa, it has soul and a cool factor that harmonizes history with the present in a really strong way. It’s not over-the-top, it’s rather simple, but the high ceilings and wonderful courtyard pool sell it. Also consider the top hotel in town Cirqa, which I didn’t choose to write about as I’ve mentioned it here more than once before, or La Posada del Puente, outside the historic center.
