The Curation: Volume 13
The Grand Hotel List, an insider's 5-day itinerary for Capri, bucket list trains around the world, spotlight on Central Europe, ten new hotel openings, and much more happy hoteling
Lucky number 13! More research has gone into this than any other post thus far. Naturally, I would love for as many of you as possible to read it. So, I created a little discount for 13% off a yearly paid subscription when redeemed with this link. It expires March 31st.
Today’s agenda. We start with The Grand Hotel List - a curation of 150 grand hotels throughout the world. Then, we go into Central Europe, with a spotlight on where I’d stay in Czechia, Poland, and Hungary. Next, we’re on to a subscriber requests for hotels in the US and Europe fit for a minimoon in August. It’s a big week of new hotels - 10 get the spotlight. Then we continue the Italian local cultural series, before I finally share a full in-depth 5-day insider itinerary for Capri. Lastly, the bucket list of trains worldwide. Finally! It’s long, it’s good, it hopefully leaves you as inspired as I am writing this.
The Grand Hotel List
This was the most fun list to research and curate, by far.
I like to stay places and feel the history. Wonder about the decades of conversation, of changing styles, the beginning of women wearing pants and then traveling alone. Wander halls that are senior experts at overhearing stories. Have breakfast in a grand room, perhaps with a waiter in a white jacket. Feel the past, while living in the present. Perfect.
A grand hotel is one of my favorite types of hotels. It can be thought of as many things, but I’m defining it as somewhere that has been continually running as a hotel for at least 90 years, has an old-world air to it, has a historic importance, and most importantly - is undeniably grand. 150 places for historic Happy Hoteling! I finally landed on a good, round number.
What’s included: Italy, France, Monaco, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Czechia, The U.K., Ireland, Turkiye, Hungary, Poland, The US, Canada, The Caribbean, Argentina, Brazil, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, India, Israel, Thailand, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa, and New Zealand.
As always, the hotels that I’m personally most drawn to are marked with an asterisk (*) – all the hotels are highly special, in one way or another. In many cases, in all the ways.
