The Curation: Volume 37
The best hotels in The Alps and 38 new additions to the Italy Hotel List
So many new faces – welcome! I’m incredibly humbled and happy to have you. Thank you for your trust and your time – I do not take it lightly. Most of you are coming from my first contributing hotel review for Yolo Journal, which went live yesterday, covering my stay at Two Bunch Palms. Yolanda and the Yolo team are who I admire most in this intrinsically linked world of trust and travel, and it’s a top honor to have a by-line below their name.
Anyway! We have so many hotels today, all in one small part of the world. Last week we went broad, this week we’re narrowing in on Italy and The Alps.
Part one is 38 new additions to the Italy Hotel List. Really special places I’m excited for you to read about. Locations include Lake Garda, Bologna, Sorrento, The Dolomites, Tuscany, Sicily, Piedmont, Sardinia, Venice, and Liguria.
Part two is all about the Alps. More specifically, hotels in the winter wonderland hotspots. This is a year in the making!
France (Courchevel, Chamonix-Mont Blanc, Méribel, Megève, Val d’Isère)
Switzerland (Gstaad, St. Moritz, Zermatt, Verbier, Wengen, Crans-Montana)
Austria (Lech & Bad Gastein)
Italy (Courmayeur)
On the horizon:

All the Italian Winter itineraries (next week, including the Dolomites!)
A wide-ranging list of new and upcoming hotel openings (next week)
Rating the many books I’ve read recently (next week)

All the magic in-between
This post is likely too long for email, in which case please click on the top right of your email to view in browser or in the Substack app. A perma-reminder, that even if you aren’t planning a trip to Italy or The Alps now, this will always be available for paid subscribers to return to in the archive.
Happy Hoteling in Italy: September ‘24 Edition
The Italy Hotel List has 38 new additions. All special, as always. A handful of true game changers – either in locations not previously aced or places that are an ace. The mountains get a lot of new love, which is exciting and timely for winter escaping and escapading.
Also, now is the time to book your Italian Summer trip for next year. Truly. This is how I am able to stay at certain hotels – I book in advance so more inventory is available. Today, the new additions that span the coast should be definitely added to the running. We have Campania and Liguria, Puglia and Sicily, as well as some lake.
I finally found another Special Hotel option in Bologna. Almost a huge deal, but still a big deal. And Tuscany does have new entries, even one in Florence. The names below really span the country. There’s one I’m over-the-moon excited to share, in Venice. One in South Tyrol. A lot I felt like just sharing in a note, stat. Many are affordable, as much as possible. They’re all updated on the Google Map that’s linked on The Comprehensive Curation of Hotels in Italy, which I’ll share an updated discount code for paid subscribers below (50% off vs 40%), since you have about 50% of the knowledge there in this Substack archive.
These additions bring the list to an unexpectedly round 650 – the 650 most special hotels throughout Italy. Pretty cool! The holy grail for any and all Italy trip planning. Or at least, Happy Hoteling :)

Villa Ida Lampugnani, Parabiago – This is one of the finds of the year, for me. In a small town outside Milan that’s easy for a flight out of Malpensa lives a liberty style villa from the early 1900s that’s still owned by the same family today and is one of the most magnificent places to stay I’ve ever seen. They only take hotel reservations by phone. The rooms are luxurious but simple in comparison to the common areas. Which are magnificent. What a fantastic way to spend a night before or after a flight from Milan. Also, you can get married here and… can someone do that, ti prego?
